We have created Spiral Textile to encourage collaboration among textile artisans and academic researchers. Textile artists possess a wealth of experience that is valuable to historic studies. Presentation of archaeological finding and historical information communicates the richness of our collective textile inheritance.
As a research project, Spiral Textile relies upon participant information about material choices and production techniques. These data are essential for historic textile research as we lack information from artisans’ perspectives in ancient times. While we can’t recreate the past, Spiral Textile can provide valuable insights into ancient production practices, technology and craftsmanship.
The Spiral Textile Survey form is now available on the website under the Survey tab. We look forward to receiving your samples and responses. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
